Transparent team overview: The practice vacation planner shows you immediately which colleagues in the same work area are out at the same time — for example when reception and lab would both be uncovered on the same bridge day. You see the clash while entering it, not later in the weekly plan, and can adjust coverage before consultation hours suffer.
Fair distribution instead of first come, first served: Staff submit vacation requests digitally, via the web app or the mobile app for iOS and Android. You approve or decline directly in the list; if you decline an absence you had already approved, the vacation days go straight back to the account. Under section 7(1) of the German Federal Leave Act (BUrlG), vacation requests must be honoured unless urgent operational needs or socially more pressing requests from others stand against them — the practice vacation planner makes both visible in the same view.
A vacation account you never recalculate: Available = annual leave + carryover − confirmed days, and pending requests do not reduce the account yet. Half days count as 0.5, carryover is capped at 15 days in medishift, and public holidays are imported automatically per location for Germany, Austria and Switzerland — including federal state or canton.

How Vacation Planning Works With the Practice Vacation Planner
The practice vacation planner replaces the wall calendar behind the reception desk. You enter an absence, pick category and period, and the practice vacation planner works out the vacation days itself: weekends drop out, public holidays come from the location import, and the fixed working times of a part-time assistant are taken into account. Half days count as 0.5. For practice closures and company holidays you create the absence for the whole team at once via multi-select — and the practice vacation planner still calculates the days individually per employee.
Medishift shows two views. The list names employee, category, period, vacation days, remaining account and status; the calendar view switches between month and year. The year view puts twelve months side by side per employee, with category-coloured bars, a vacation account column, a today line and calendar week markers. You can sort alphabetically, by work area, or by drag and drop in your own order. Practice vacation schedules are the same source for planners and team.
Two key figure cards show what is open: pending requests and upcoming absences in the next 30 days. Every category carries two switches - whether it deducts vacation days and whether it counts as working time in the overtime account. Vacation deducts and counts, sick leave does not deduct but still counts, and the same applies to practice closure. Under section 3(1) of the German Federal Leave Act (BUrlG), every employee is entitled to at least 24 working days on a six-day week; remaining days carry over in Medishift with a cap of 15 days. From single practice to medical center, the practice vacation plan stays the same.
